Tobacco use is the leading cause of preventable disease, death and related healthcare costs worldwide. Although over 70% of smokers want to quit smoking, less than 5% manage to do so each year. Despite the advances in healthcare, technology and medical technology, there are still few innovations that help people to quit smoking permanently. Therefore, as part of the "iQuit" project, nuumi is developing an innovative therapy program to make it easier to quit smoking and thus reduce the risk of cancer from nicotine consumption.
In 2020, nuumi applied to the IBB ProFIT program with the iQuit project in order to receive official funding and support from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). The ERDF has been financing this project since March 2021 after the IBB rated nuumi's project for the development of modern and holistic nicotine withdrawal as positive.
With this project, nuumi would like to make the wish of many people to become and remain smoke-free possible. Using AI, Nuumi combines gentle nicotine weaning with an intelligent vaporizer and nicotine-containing cartridges with digital behavioral training that can be carried out at any time via an app. The vaporizer is connected to the smartphone via a Bluetooth API and collects information about smoking behavior, reducing the nicotine intake automatically and individually. At the same time, behavioral training trains users to develop new behaviors that replace old patterns. Thus, the physical and psychological dependence on cigarettes is addressed holistically. Ultimately, the success rate of smoking cessation with iQuit should be significantly higher than with other methods that comply with the medical guideline.
